Ski Openings in Vorarlberg

The pioneer of alpine skiing is already in the starting gates for the winter season. The first ski resorts in Vorarlberg will open at the end of November, all the other winter sport resorts in the six holiday regions of Vorarlberg will follow in December.

From Laterns as well as Bödele above Dornbirn in the Lake Constance region, the Bregenzerwald with its 88 cable cars and lifts, to sustainable Kleinwalsertal with 48 cable cars and the varied Brandnertal. Being high up in the mountains, the Montafon has 75 cable cars and lifts. Vorarlberg can only be described in superlatives: Ski Arlberg is not only the largest ski resort in Vorarlberg but also one of the five largest ski areas world-wide.

Magic Advent

From mid-November until Christmas, the St. Nicolas and Advent markets in the towns of Bregenz, Dornbirn, Feldkirch, Bludenz and Hohenems – and in some villages in the Vorarlberg regions – are sure to get you in a festive mood.  Date: 6 November 2019  You know it’s that time of the year again, when the smell of mulled wine and warm gingerbread fills the air, countless lights illuminate the towns, and carols can be heard all round.

To make Christmas come faster, the Vorarlberg locals traditionally visit at least one of the many Advent markets, each of which has something different to offer:  Handicrafts and Christmas magic In Bregenz, there are numerous Advent markets around Christmas time. The largest is the Christmas market at “Kornmarktplatz” square and “Leutbühl”. Numerous Christmas huts are open daily from 15 November until 23 December.

Alongside the many different stalls, the highlights include a small ice rink, a children’s carousel, pony rides and a live nativity scene. The traditional Christmas market in the Bregenz Upper Town (“Oberstadt”) will take place on the weekends of December (7/8, 14/15 and 21/22 December).  From 15 to 17 November, the charming arts and crafts market at the Chapel of St John of Nepomuk takes place from 11 am to 8 pm.  “Herz-Jesu Adventmärktle”: Around the church “Herz-Jesu-Kirche”, which is high above Bregenz, a small, fine Advent market with campfire, live music by Christmas brass players and many delicacies at the stands takes place. 30 November from 3 pm.
